Seussical is a musical comedy by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, based on the many children’s stories of Dr. Seuss, with most of its plot being based on Horton Hears a Who!, Gertrude McFuzz, and Horton Hatches the Egg while incorporating many other stories. The musical’s name is a portmanteau of “Seuss” and the word “musical” Following its Broadway debut in 2000

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Who’s, including Jojo, a Who childe, sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks”. Horton faces a double challenge; not only must protect the Who’s from a world of naysayers and dangers but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayze La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz is never lose his faith in him.
Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
